29 October 2007
During May 2007, Yemen LNG Company announced the commencement of recruitment of its second batch of trainees for its Marine Trainee programme in partnership with MISC Berhad and A.P. Moller-Maersk shipping companies. Under this scheme, 15 Yemeni nationals will be engaged and trained at Marine colleges in Malaysia and India. Trainees who complete the course successfully will be recruited by MISC Berhad and AP Moller-Maersk as certified officers on the four new LNG tankers which, under charter to Yemen LNG, will export Yemeni liquefied natural gas from the Yemen LNG Terminal at Balhaf to world markets.

The response to the opening of this scheme generated an average of 30 applicants per day. Initial screening was done through telephone interviews followed by testing for the 66 short-listed candidates, from a pool of over 600 applicants, who met the requirements set by the two shipping companies. This was carried out in Aden between 14 and 15 June 2007.

Those selected will follow a three to four-year training programme in Malaysia or India. Upon successful completion of the programme, candidates will have the opportunity for career progression within either the Deck or Engineering professions, potentially moving upwards to fill more senior positions in the future. Successful candidates will be informed of their selection before end of June 2007.

Coincidentally, the first batch cadets following training in Malaysia visited Yemen LNG office on 20 June 2007 after completion of their first annual leave in Yemen.
