Shipping

Yemen LNG has chartered 4 vessels, for a period of 20 years, to deliver LNG to its customers and fulfill its contractual obligations towards Total Gas & Power.

Two of the ships were contracted with MISC Berhad of Malaysia and were built in Nagasaki, Japan, by Mitsubishi Heavy Indistries, while the other two ships have been contracted with AP Moller-Maersk and were built in the Samsung shipyards in Geoje in South Korea.

The MISC vessels have been named Seri Balhaf and Seri Balquis, while the Maersk ships have been named Maersk Marib and Maersk Arwa. Seri means splendor in Malaysian while the remaining portion of the names honour Yemen's two most famous queens as well as the two project sites.

In partnership with Yemen LNG, both MISC Berhad and AP Moller-Maersk shipping companies are implementing a Marine Trainee scheme under which Yemeni nationals are engaged in three to four-year training programmes at Marine colleges in Malaysia and India.

Trainees who complete the course successfully are recruited by MISC Berhad and AP Moeller-Maersk as certified officers on the four LNG tankers thus creating additional job opportunities for Yemeni citizens.
