01 November 2008In response to the humanitarian disaster that inflicted Hadhramout and Al-Mahrah Governorates last week, Yemen LNG took immediate action to provide in-kind relief supplies, logistical aids and extended its chartered helicopter for the service of impacted populations in the area. The total contribution from Yemen LNG amounted to around YR 60 million. Basic relief supplies included, but were not limited to, the provision of tents, blankets, basic food supplies and an electricity generator for a local health centre. On Thursday, 23 October 2008, floods stormed many regions in the two governorates causing hundreds of deaths and injuries, in addition to the destruction of over 2,400 homes and shops leaving thousands of people displaced, according to latest Government statistics. The same sources also indicate that 90% of the infrastructure was destroyed. Based on its social responsibility principles, Yemen LNG took the initiative to be among the first contributors to mitigate the impact on affected people needing swift humanitarain intervention.
