“There is no better investment for our communities than in the education and empowerment of youth”, Mr. Faisal Haitham, Yemen LNG Deputy General Manager, said at a book donation ceremony at Sana’a University. The ceremony marked the donation of a large number of English language text-books to the University’s Central Library. The donated books cover a wide range of topics including literature, grammar and composition, as well as writing and reading skills. According to Mr. Haitham, Yemen LNG is “proud to make this donation of books to the students of Sana’a University as a small token of cooperation between the private sector and the educational sector to improve access to educational opportunities and resources”.

The collection of books was made possible by a joint effort between Yemen LNG, the American Section at College Marcel Roby in St Germain en Laye in France, freight forwarder Partnair, and Yemenia Airlines, which have all contributed to the provision and transfer of the books from France to the university.

Furthering the objective of youth development from another angle, Yemen LNG is also involved in other youth development initiatives. The company has recently co-sponsored a Youth Leadership Development Conference that took place in Mukalla, Hadramout, targeting potential young leaders to enhance their skills and capabilities and empower them to achieve their aspirations and those of their communities. The conference was attended by approximately 100 young people from all over Yemen, including 12 from the Marib and Shabwa governorates, where Yemen LNG operates.

Zayn-Allah Mohamed, a participant from Marib, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the participants from Marib and Shabwa sponsored by Yemen LNG for “providing them with this unique opportunity”. “Your contribution”, Zayn-Allah added, “has left an immediate impact on the participants by broadening their horizons and helping them develop new skills and knowledge”. Yemen LNG participated not only as a co-sponsor of the conference but also actively contributed through its speakers at the opening ceremony and during a presentation on Yemen LNG’s corporate social responsibility portfolio.

“The expected result is certainly a more educated and knowledgeable generation that is capable of supporting the development process and achieving the goals and ambitions of their communities in all fields,” said Haitham, during an opening speech he delivered at the conference.

Yemen LNG also runs an integrated Yemenisation programme with a view to gradually Yemenise its workforce and build the competencies of Yemeni citizens, especially youth. This acknowledges the pivotal role young people can play in the development of Yemen—a country whose young people constitute over half of the population. In support of this commitment, Yemen LNG inaugurated a Technical Training Centre in April of this year which provides Yemeni trainees, the majority of whom are aged between 22 and 30, with intensive technical training to be able to operate what will be the most advanced industrial plant ever built in the country.
