Jade C., a cargo ship carrying over 2,500 tons of equipment, docked at Balhaf on 29 March 2007.

“This ship is the first to dock the Marine Offloading Facility in Balhaf. She was carrying over 2,500 tons of piping supplies and equipment. It took four days to unload”, said Amin Al-Madhaji, Yemen LNG Deputy Project Manager. “This means that the MOF in Balhaf is now ready to receive ships carrying equipment for the construction of the plant”.

With these port facilities now operational, ships bringing supplies and equipment from overseas for the construction of the Yemen LNG plant no longer have to dock in Aden or Mukalla ports saving Yemen LNG’s contractors the time and effort required to transport heavy machinery and equipment to Balhaf by road, a journey of over 400km per trip.

Yemen LNG is currently constructing a natural gas liquefaction plant on the coast of Balhaf, as well as a 320-kilometer pipeline which will connect the gas processing facilities in Block 18 in Marib to the liquefaction facilities, located at around 400 km East of Aden. The construction is currently involving around 4,000 people in Balhaf and almost another 1,000 along the pipeline.
