Yemen LNG begins the deployment of seven new FADs

In continuation of its support to fishing communities around Balhaf, Yemen LNG has commenced the third phase for the provision and redeployment of seven modified Fish Aggregation Devices (FADs) in Al-Ayn Bay and Bir Ali, near Balhaf. With the participation of local fishermen, the first FAD was deployed by a local-made pontoon about 5 miles to Bir Ali town on 9 May. The new FADs are designed and manufactured in a way to resist strong waves and nautical currents. As many as 2,000 fishermen will benefit directly from this project.

Yemen LNG has deployed so far 12 FADs in the Al-Ain bay and Bir Ali forming by which new habitats and increasing as a result fish catch for local fishermen.

FADs are anchored to the sea floor with a large buoy visible on the surface with a floating mats attached to the buoy. They are designed to collect and encourage the population growth of pelagic fish in the area by attracting these fish other species that are common catch for the local fisheries.
